Men’s basketball back-to-back in Sweet 16

The men’s basketball team takes on UConn on Thursday – its second consecutive time in the Sweet 16 and fourth in program history.

The Aztecs will be participating in the Sweet 16 for the first time ever in the history of San Diego State University.

The Aztecs will play the top-seeded University of Connecticut Huskies in Boston on Thursday after defeating Yale 85-57 on Sunday night.

“We’ll go out there and we’ll play in a hostile environment in Boston against a great UConn team and see where it ends up,” Brian Dutcher, our coach, said. “We’re going to go in with a game plan and with a bunch of guys that believe they can win and we’ll see how it ends.”

Last year, when the Huskies defeated the Aztecs 76-59 in the championship game, gold confetti was thrown to the sidelines by Jaedon LeDee, the outstanding All-American forward for SDSU and one of the most prolific scorers in the country.

“We kind of had a little bitter taste in our mouth last year after they beat us, but we get to play them again and they’re a great team,” LeDee said.
