Roughnecks seek first win looking to overcome mistakes, injuries
The Houston Roughnecks received a quality performance from their No. 2 quarterback Sunday at D.C. and made some plays worthy of the highlight reel, namely a pick six by Corn Elder.
But enough negative plays led to a 23-18 loss. Houston fell to 0-2 and travels to Detroit this week seeking its first United Football League victory.

Reid Sinnett is expected to make his first start of the season Sunday against the Michigan Panthers. He entered last week’s game on the Roughnecks’ fourth drive due to an injury to starter Jarrett Guarantano.
Sinnett played briefly in the season opener and found an early rhythm against D.C., often making quick reads. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 221 yards and a 34-yard touchdown to Keke Chism that produced an 18-12 lead in the third quarter.
“He really got the ball out and saw everything,” Roughnecks coach C.J. Johnson said. “I like his vision, I like him getting the ball out and he was pretty accurate. What I liked about him this past game was he had little practice. Jarrett took all the reps, that’s how it should be. But I thought he played really well.”
Johnson said Nolan Henderson, who started the season at No. 3 on the depth chart, could see time against Michigan. The Roughnecks also signed Kenji Bahar, placing him on the inactive list. Bahar was the Roughnecks’ starting quarterback in 2023, passing for 1,709 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions.
