CFL Blue Bombers increases profit to $5.7M in 2023

According to Jeff Hamilton of the WINNIPEG FREE PRESS, the CFL Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced on Thursday that their operating profit for 2023 was $5.7 million, up nearly $1 million from 2022 when the team “boasted record highs in gate revenue and team merchandise sales” and “more than double” the $2.8 million they made in 2021. The amount of revenue generated was $50.5 million, an 11% increase over the previous year’s total of $5.1 million. In addition to leading the CFL in attendance for a second straight season, the Bombers “certainly benefited” from hosting the West Final for a third straight year. Hamilton observed that on average,

Compared to an average of 28,642 spectators per game in 2022, 30,449 supporters attended each game in 2023. Additionally, the Bombers sold $15.1 million worth of tickets, which made up “nearly 30 per cent of the club’s total revenue.” Operating costs were “just shy” of $45 million, up about $4.5 million from the prior year. The city’s professional soccer team, Valour FC of the Canadian Premier League, was identified by Hamilton as the “sore spot” in the report, with an ultimate cost to the Bombers of $1.25 million.
