Former B.C. Lions return specialist Chris Rainey hired by Florida high school

Former CFL return specialist Chris Rainey has landed a coaching job at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, Fla. according to a recent post from head coach John Brantley.

Trinity Catholic is a two-time Florida state championship-winning program, taking home titles in 2005 and 2010. The Celtics finished with a 6-8 record last season.

Rainey played seven seasons in the CFL, six of which came as a member of the B.C. Lions. He began his career in 2014 as a member of the Montreal Alouettes and made a one-year stop with the Toronto Argonauts in 2019, before returning to B.C. to finish his career.

A two-time West Division all-star as a returner, he amassed 3,692 punt return yards, 7,185 kickoff return yards, 305 missed field goal return yards, and seven total special teams touchdowns over the course of his career. In 88 CFL games, the Lakeland, Fla. native added 220 carries for 1,099 yards and three touchdowns, to go along with 148 receptions for 1,316 yards and nine majors.

Prior to his time in the CFL, Rainey was a two-sport star at the University of Florida, competing in track and football. He was a member of the BCS National Championship team in 2009 and a first-team All-SEC selection in 2011, becoming a fifth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2012 NFL Draft. He was waived the following year after being arrested for domestic battery and was out of the league in three seasons after stops with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals.

Since retiring in 2022, the 36-year-old has owned and operated Chris Rainey Speed Factory and Rainey Elite Speed, a pair of speed training organizations focused on local Florida youth.
