UNC Basketball: The importance of Seth Trimble’s return
As has become the norm for this particular part of the offseason, a lot of things are happening, both in Chapel Hill and across college basketball. For the Heels, Harrison Ingram has entered his name in the NBA draft but technically still has the opportunity to come back. As of now, it looks like RJ Davis will be returning for his fifth and final year, but nothing is official. What is official, however, is that Seth Trimble decided to remove his name from the transfer portal and will be wearing Carolina blue again next season.
Having Trimble back for his junior year is massive for a multitude of reasons. For one, his decision gives Hubert Davis more clarity as he continues to navigate the roster construction. Most importantly, it means the return of an experienced guard with exceptional athletic ability and a potential to be extremely effective on both ends of the court next season. Trimble was a big reason this last group was special and so much fun to watch, and he’s only going to get better.
Trimble’s stay in the portal was short-lived as he entered his name on April 9th and removed it just two weeks later. His hesitancy to come back was completely understandable, though, given the Heels’ backcourt situation. If Davis is back, that means Trimble will likely be coming off the bench once again. A player of his caliber could easily find a starting spot and more minutes elsewhere, but this team and this school clearly mean a lot to him and he wants to win a national championship.
