WVU Set to Reveal New Football Uniforms
West Virginia will reveal a brand-new set of uniforms during the spring game festivities that will go on sale in 2024. Since Neal Brown was hired in 2019, the present group has been in place; they were also made public at the spring game.
Fans of West Virginia have been eagerly awaiting this uniform reset, which usually occurs every six years or so. Please understand that while the current set appears tidy, it is lacking in personality. Particularly the road uniforms, it’s really boring and uninspired. The road uniform, with its all-blue and white color scheme, is quite similar to Penn State except that it lacks gold. Simply put, it doesn’t resemble West Virginia.
They have an opportunity to do things well with this new release and pay homage to the rich legacy of Mountaineer football by reintroducing the flying WV on the shoulders, block numbers, glossy helmet finishes, and pants stripes. Will it take place? Not all of stuff will likely be included, but I have a suspicion that some of it will. This, in my opinion, will be more of a conflict between respecting the past and feeling contemporary.
There’s also very established belief that a black alternate uniform will make its way into the rotation. West Virginia has had a gray alternate in the fold since 2019 and also had it in the previous look that existed from 2012-18. This past basketball season, both the men and women’s teams sported an all black uniform with gold trim and lettering. With black presumably in the mix, gray will allegedly be on the way out.
In under 24 hours, we’ll have all the answers to what the next chapter of Mountaineer football will look like.
