WVU Football secures first class of 2026 commit

Linebacker Daiveon Taylor has yet to finish his sophomore year of high school, but he took the next step Saturday toward his future.

Taylor kept WVU Football staff busy on Saturday, announcing shortly after the Gold-Blue Spring Game that he would be West Virginia’s first commit from the class of 2026.

The 6’2′′ linebacker, who was born in Western Pennsylvania, turned down invitations to play at WVU from Pittsburgh and Penn State. Taylor is the best linebacker in his class in Pennsylvania, and at 227 pounds, he already possesses the bulk needed to play collegiate football.

Taylor has another new journey starting this fall at Aliquippa Junior/Senior High School, so West Virginia is far in the future. Less than two weeks ago, Taylor declared his intention to transfer from Bishop Canevin to Aliquippa.

Even though Taylor still has a long way to go, Mountaineer supporters and a few of his potential teammates who played alongside and against Taylor in high school will be thrilled when he finally arrives at Morgantown.
