Under former UConn star Carla Berube’s tutelage, Chen played for three seasons, making the first team all-Ivy in 2023 and 2024. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the senior’s freshman season in 2020–21, therefore she was unable to spend her final year of eligibility at Princeton because graduate students are not allowed to play sports according to Ivy League regulations.

The 5-foot-9 guard from San Marino, California, averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game last season on her way to earning a nod as a WBCA honorable mention All-American. The season prior, in her Ivy League Player of the Year campaign, she averaged 16.2 points per game.

Chen made three appearances in the NCAA tournament and assisted the Tigers in winning three Ivy League tournament titles, each time earning him the title of Most Outstanding Player. For the past six seasons, the Tigers have taken home at least a share of the Ivy League championship.

The Huskies’ loss of Nika Muhl to the WNBA is offset by Chen’s addition. Azzi Fudd, KK Arnold, Paige Bueckers, the 2021 national player of the year, and rising sophomore KK Arnold are just a few of the talented backcourt players for UConn.
