The 6-foot-6 center from Buffalo, N.Y. announced her decision to use her final year of eligibility with the Terrapins on Instagram Sunday, posting ‘I like turtles.’

DeBerry was the No. 15-ranked recruit in the Class of 2021, a McDonald’s All-American, and a two-time gold medalist with USA Basketball prior to coming to Storrs.

Though the Huskies were short in the post and short-handed in numbers through her career — and particularly in her last two seasons — she was unable to break into coach Geno Auriemma’s rotation. In three years she played in 65 of a possible 112 games and averaged 1.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 6.1 minutes per game.

She had offseason back surgery a year ago and saw action in 23 games as a junior, averaging 1.0 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 4.5 minutes. UConn announced that she had suffered a concussion in practice during the final week of the regular season and she sat out the Big East Tournament. Auriemma then said on Selection Sunday that DeBerry would be unavailable for the NCAA Tournament run though she did travel to the regionals in Portland, Oregon and to the Final Four in Cleveland.
