Footballers show support for council’s foster carers
In an effort to support the Swindon Borough Council’s call for more foster caregivers to step forward and give children who have no one to care for them a home, the Swindon Town Football Club has partnered with their fostering staff.
In an effort to increase awareness of fostering, the team’s players warmed up before the season’s last game against Morecambe while sporting special t-shirts.
The council is responsible for the care of about 300 children, ranging in age from infants to teenagers, who are unable to remain in their own homes.
The team gave free tickets to foster carers and their kids, who attended the match, which resulted in a 3-3 draw.
The t-shirt promotion was proposed by Hayley, a foster carer with the council, who wanted to encourage others to become carers with the local authority and celebrate those who are already part of the team.
Hayley said: “My husband and I have been fostering with Swindon Borough Council for nearly 14 years and as foster carers we are always looking at ways to help promote fostering and encourage new carers.”
