Crystal Palace have reportedly made a £21.5 million bid for Torino defender Perr Schuurs as the former Ajax man weighs up whether to swap Serie A for the Premier League this summer.

And before you write off Crystal Palace’s chances – pointing out that some of the biggest clubs in Europe have also been linked with the ex-Netherlands U21 international recently – Perr Schuurs is not the sort of player to simply choose the most glamorous opportunity available to him.

Schuurs, according to his agent, had offers on the table from Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain. He chose Torino back in 2022 instead due to the prospect of regular first team football in Italy.

Crystal Palace would arguably now represent the natural next step.

Crystal Palace make big Perr Schuurs bid

After an impressive end to last season under Roy Hodgson, a young, talented Palace side look well-placed to continue their recent progress presuming Michael Olise, Cheick Doucoure, Marc Guehi and Ebere Eze all stay put at Selhurst Park.

23-year-old Schuurs, meanwhile, would fit in nicely in a young, technically-gifted dressing room.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that Crystal Palace have submitted a bid of around £21.5 million. Schuurs, who was often likened to former Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt during his time at the Johan Cruyff Arena, will take his time before making a decision on a potential switch to South London, but the progress made by Olise, Eze and co in red-and-blue should make Palace a potential intriguing destination for some of Europe’s most promising young talents.

“His ambition is to play at the highest level of European football,” agent George Gardi tells Fabrizio Romano. “He’s had an amazing season so there are several clubs interested in him. We will discuss with Torino if it is a decision that is positive for all parties.

“It could be an option to evaluate this summer.”

Schuurs, at Crystal Palace, could potentially replace Joachim Andersen as the club’s right-sided centre-half. Anderson is reportedly a target for ambitious Newcastle United.
