The London Knights are Western Conference champions for the second year in a row.
They defeated the Saginaw Spirit 4-2 in Game six on Sunday at the Dow Event Center to take the Wayne Gretzky Trophy. The Knights are now the first team to win the trophy back-to-back since the franchise last did so in 2012 and 2013. It is the Knights’ eighth Wayne Gretzky Trophy in franchise history.
OHL MVP Easton Cowan scored two goals and provided an assist in the contest on Sunday. Jackson Edward scored the game-winning goal in the third quarter, while Sam O’Reilly also scored. Max McCue and Denver Barkey both had two assists.
Michael Simpson, the Knights’ goalie, made 33 saves.
The victor of Monday’s Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Final between the North Bay Battalion and the Oshawa Generals will take on the Knights next.
