Tennessee Baseball In Striking Distance Of SEC Championship With One Week Remaining

Tennessee baseball (42-10, 19-8 SEC) held steady as the No. 1 team in the country after taking two out of three games against Vanderbilt over the weekend. But the Vols weren’t able to move into first place in the SEC after picking up their eighth straight series victory.

In fact, Tennessee remains in the same spot in the SEC Championship race as they were entering the weekend. Kentucky played three highly competitive games at Florida and won two of them to move to 20-7 in SEC play and to maintain its one-game lead in the conference championship race.

With one week remaining in the regular season it is a three-team race to see who will win the conference championship. Texas A&M (17-10 SEC) is technically still in contention but it would take a miracle for the Aggies to end up splitting the conference crown.

Both Tennessee and Kentucky are at home for the final weekend of the regular season. The Vols host South Carolina (13-14 SEC) for a three-game series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium while the Wildcats host Vanderbilt (12-15 SEC) for a three-game series at Kentucky Proud Park.
