Brisbane gun set to become a Lion for life after penning monster contract extension
In-demand free agent Hugh McCluggage has re-signed with Brisbane for a mammoth seven years, keeping him a Lion until the end of 2031.
As per Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary, the 26-year-old has stayed loyal to his club of eight years in a move that takes one of the few restricted free agents off the market.
Brisbane is expected to announce his signing officially as soon as tomorrow.
The winger and midfielder is having a superb year at Brisbane, despite his club enduring a less-than-ideal start to 2024.
At the halfway mark of the season, McCluggage is averaging over 25 disposals and nearly five clearances a match – a career high in both stat lines.
His dedication to the Lions has left clubs such as St Kilda and North Melbourne high and dry, who were reportedly prepared to offer McCluggage well over a million dollars on a deal even longer than what he has just signed.
He has played 166 games since 2017, kicking 108 goals in the same timeframe.
