Former Vols QB Josh Dobbs comments on leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Cleveland Browns

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs signed a free agent deal last week with the Cleveland Browns.

It’s a one-year deal for Dobbs.

The former Vols standout was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Dobbs spent the first three years of his career with the Steelers, before being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019. The Georgia native then re-signed with the Steelers ahead of the 2020 season. Dobbs spent the 2021 season in Pittsburgh as well.

Playing for the Browns — one of the Steelers’ biggest rivals — will certainly be strange for a player who has spent the majority of his NFL career with Pittsburgh.

Dobbs recently appeared on NFL Rewindon Sirius to discuss signing with the Browns. And he admitted that playing in Cleveland will be…different.

“In talking with Cleveland, it’s a tremendous opportunity as well as a really, really fun room to be in and a really, really talented team,” said Dobbs. “It’s a little weird, of course, you play against them every year in the league being in Pittsburgh and now you’re a Cleveland Brown. But I’m excited about the opportunity. I’m excited about the future. I know just getting a chance to watch [Head coach Kevin] Stefanski’s offense, I’ll be excited to dive into it and play in it as well, and contribute however I can to help the team win.”

Dobbs joins a team that has three quarterbacks on the roster already in Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield, and Jacoby Brissett.

The expectation is that Mayfield will be traded before the start of the 2022 season, opening the door for Dobbs to serve as the Browns’ No. 3 quarterback.
