Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey hasn’t played for the Reds for weeks and he’s now not been spotted on a squad photo. The Reds player hasn’t featured since a reported falling out with Steve Cooper before the defeat to Liverpool in April.

Forest have now secured their Premier League survival. When he signed for the club, he claimed that he would love to try and help the Reds preserve their status as a top-flight football club.

Cooper’s team have done it without the midfielder though. Shelvey reacted badly to being told that he would only make the bench for the trip to Anfield and that level of petulance hasn’t gone down well with the head coach.

Forest have stayed up on a foundation of togetherness. Ultimately, that’s a word that simply cannot be associated with Shelvey. It’s also fair to say that the Reds aren’t the only club to have experienced that first-hand.

The Reds have now shared a picture on Twitter. It features all the players following a training session; along with the staff who work at the Nigel Doughty Academy on a regular basis.

Shelvey is one player who isn’t spotted in the photo. It perhaps suggests that the 31-year-old isn’t even training with the club and now the future looks particularly bleak for him at the City Ground.

Shelvey not spotted in Forest photo

This is quite telling. Forest are a different animal under Cooper. As a result, they will no longer will they persist with mercenaries who have zero interest in giving their all for the good of the football club.

Shelvey was always a weird signing on paper. He had hardly played frequently for Newcastle in ages and he’s a player that is way past his best as a Premier League footballer.

It might prove tricky but Forest must do whatever it takes to get rid of Shelvey this summer. The atmosphere between the fans and players was evident against Crystal Palace on Sunday. With that in mind, the Reds don’t need anyone upsetting the mentality.
