Howard Stern Has His Staff Dote On Him And His Fulfill His Diva-Like Requests
While discussing his 2024 trip to Italy on his June 3rd, 2024 broadcast, Howard Stern admitted that he is diva-like when it comes to hotels. He even made SiriusXM pay for multiple Miami hotel rooms for him and his wife to avoid having to hear or run into people. Stern is also extremely sensitive to noise when he sleeps, so he requests that no one is above or below him in a hotel room. But this is just the start of what makes him difficult, and he knows it.
On SiriusXM satlittle radio’s The Howard Stern Show, the self-proclaimed King Of All Media has several diva-like requests for his assortment of beloved on and off-air staff members. One of his most famous is that the halls are cleared of people when his shows are done. This is because he wants to walk to his office without being bothered by questions. That way he can nap and recharge after his 3 and half hour-long morning radio show.
While former staffers like ‘Stuttering John’ Melendez have made Stern out to be a tyrant for rules like this, the radio legend himself makes fun of his personality on air. This includes an old segment when he yelled at staffer JD Harmeyer for eating and laughing too loudly when Stern was napping in his office next door.
Then there’s the famous instant when Stern ordered his longtime producer Gary ‘Ba Ba Booey’ Dell’Abate to leave work and go to his house to ensure that the radio legend hadn’t left stained Kleenex next to his bed for the cleaning person to find. It was one of many instances where Stern tried to protect his image by having his employees do literal dirty work.During his June 3rd, 2024 radio show, Howard Stern admitted that his assistant intitutively knows when he needs baby wipes. She constantly keeps his bathroom stocked up with them as he almost never wipes with toilet paper. Stern has claimed that he prefers baby wipes because they keep him cleaner and fresher, despite being aware they can harm the environment and plumbing system.
Before Stern’s assistant, it was his radio show producer Gary ‘Ba Ba Booey’ Dell’Abate who was in charge of acquiring the baby wipes. However, Dell’Abate constantly embarrassed Stern by asking if he needed more of them in public.
“I’m like, ‘Dude, if I needed them the last time, just assume I need them this time’.”
During the pandemic, Stern’s wife Beth had to take care of all of his needs as he’d seldom let his assistant, or anyone else, into his house. It was likely during this time that she became really good at taking care of him.
On June 5th, 2024, Beth revealed that she had gone to great lengths to make her husband comfortable during their upcoming summer trip to Italy with Jimmy and Molly Kimmel. Due to becoming a master at understanding Stern’s unique and rigid desires, she has found a way to trick him to getting used to the time zone change. This was Stern could go to bed at his desired time — extremely early. Additionally, she has not planned activities too far from the hotels/resorts they are staying at so Stern can quickly go rest if he gets cranky. However, Beth claimed that she is unwilling to meet all of his dietary restrictions and she wants them both to enjoy Italy’s famous food scene.
Howard Stern’s longtime co-host, Robin Quivers, has also admitted that his staffers dote over him, often climbing over each other to ensure his comfort. They no his various rules, including not bothering him when off-air, not touching his personal belongings, and, definitely not using his private bathroom.
Howard Stern’s Producer Tried To Get Female Guests To Go Out With Him
During Howard Stern’s June 5th radio broadcast, it was revealed that longtime Stern Show producer Gary Dell’Abate would offer to collect the phone numbers of the beautiful women who appeared on air. The admission followed the discussion about Dell’Abate acquiring baby wipes for Stern’s bathroom. Just like how he would ask Stern about his need for the tools of his bathroom cleaning, Dell’Abate would ask his boss in public if he wanted a ‘hot’ guest’s number. Of course, ‘Ba Ba Booey’ would only do this during the brief time he was single between his first and second marriages.
“When I was single and an attractive guest would come in, [Gary] would go, ‘Boss, do you want me to get her number for you?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah!’ But don’t embarrass me.”
Stern’s longtime co-host Robin Quivers also remembered those moments and claimed that Dell’Abate almost always thought Stern was kidding. In fact, he wasn’t.
“No, I don’t want to f*** someone famous,” Stern said sarcastically, recalling the interactions. “That would be a disaster.”
Ever the honest one, Stern continued to admit that his desire to sleep with his famous guests was due to the severe insecurity he felt at the time.
“[Gary] doesn’t know that I need to f*** famous people in order to build up myself. In order to feel like a human being? He hasn’t figured that out yet?”
Stern went on to joke that when Dell’Abate did get a celebrity’s personal number, he would be calmer behind the scenes. While Howard Stern has dated a former interview subject, actor Robin Givens, he doesn’t have the negative reputation with women that his on-air persona may have suggested. In fact, he has spent most of his life in committed relationships; first to the mother of his children, Alison Berns, and second to his current wife of 20 years, Beth Ostrosky.
