Yesterday afternoon, the internet started to come alive relating to a possible target Luton Town were interested in.

Most of the internet noise was cOming from Sunderland fans who were, to put it mildly, sincerely worried that Luton Town were looking to sign their top striker, Ross Stewart.

As hard as I tried I couldn’t substantiate the outcry with an originating source being hard to trace.

However, this morning I have stumbled across the weakest of links, with the Sports Illustrated Sunderland Nation, discussing the same subject matter but, once again, with very little when it comes to a substantiatingsource.

But, as far as rumours go, I think it is worthy of discussion.

Stewart, last season, was a regular scorer for the Black Cats scoring 11 league goals in 15 starts before his season was cruelly cut short due to an Achilles tendon injury.

Indeed, Sunderland’s season could have ended very differently if he had of remained fit and continued his fine scoring form.

A Scottish international, Stewart is approaching the last year of his contract and has yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

However, the striker is unlikely to be fit for the start of the 2023/2024 season, still recuperating from the aformentioned injury.

Bearing the above in mind, Sunderland could, perhaps, be persuaded to sell, but the fee, for Luton Town, could be quite substantial.

Although I’d seriously like to see Stewart sign for the Hatters, the lack of a concrete foundation for the speculation, results in me giving this particular piece of transfer tittle-tattle just a 2 in our 1 to 10 scale.
