Who Was Cincinnati’s Most Significant Departure in Offseason?

CBS Sports named the most significant loss this offseason for all 32 teams.

Each year, NFL rosters see some yearly turnover to the point where the team looks at the very least a little bit different the following season.

From draft picks to trades to free agency, rosters will never look completely the same from one year to the next.

Some losses, however, are more significant than others.

CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan named each team’s biggest loss from this past offseason, and the Bengals had an interested one:

From Sullivan: After seven seasons in Cincinnati, the Bengals elected to trade running back Joe Mixon to the Texans in exchange for a late-round pick in 2024. After the trade, Mixon inked a three-year, $27 million extension with Houston. Mixon finished his tenure ranking third on the franchise’s all-time rushing yards list and second in rushing touchdowns. The Bengals then signed Zack Moss in free agency to lead the backfield.

With Joe Burrow’s contract kicking in, Ja’Marr Chase due for a huge extension, and at least a desire from the team to keep Tee Higgins as well, paying a running back at a premium was simply a luxury the team could not afford.

That being said, Mixon did have a phenomenal tenure in Cincinnati, rushing for over 1,000 yards in four of his seven seasons along with finding the end zone a total of 62 times.

But the team brought in Zack Moss at a third of the price of Mixon, who will likely be able to slot right in and produce at at least a level close to that of Mixon.

As they say, it’s just business at the end of the day in the NFL.
