Wolves defender and former captain Conor Coady is close to a move to Leicester City, according to a report.
The 30-year-old England international is due to report back to Wolves for pre-season training after Everton decided against triggering a £4.5m transfer clause in the deal that took him to Goodison Park last summer on a season-long loan.
Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United have also been linked with the centre back but Leicester have stolen a march according to the Daily Mirror which reports the Foxes are hoping to get a deal done for him by this weekend as they try to assemble a team to get out of the Championship at the first attempt.
Meanwhile, talkSPORT reports that Wolves have rejected Leicester’s offer. However, they say the Foxes will go back with another bid and ‘are confident’ of getting their man.
Coady could be the second centre back to leave Wolves imminently, with Brentford keen to sign Nathan Collins. Reports suggest the Bees have bid more than £20m but Wolves are holding out for £25m for the 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international.
Wolves need to raise money to stay the right side of Financial Fair Play regulations this summer. They took a major step towards doing that by selling captain Ruben Neves to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal for £47m last week so sales of Collins and Coady could leave them with money to invest in new signings.
But if both Collins and Coady do go, Wolves would need to bring in at least one centre back to compete with Craig Dawson, Max Kilman and Toti for a first team spot.
The Mirror reports: “Leicester want strong, vocal leaders and Coady fits the mould perfectly particularly with big name players set to leave the King Power Stadium this summer.”
