Daniel Farke is in contention to be appointed new Leeds United manager
Matt Kilgallon would back the appointment of Daniel Farke at Leeds United after a positive reference from Norwich City defender Grant Hanley.
Former Canaries boss Farke has emerged as a leading contender for Leeds having left Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of last season. The German head coach has two promotions to the Premier League on his CV, making him an attractive proposition for Whites officials as they plot an immediate promotion from the Championship this season.
Having graduated through Leeds’ academy before enjoying a respectable career, Kilgallon clearly still keeps a close eye on developments at Elland Road. And with Farke in contention, the former defender revealed that he called upon his former team-mate to get the lowdown on the potential replacement for Sam Allardyce.
Kilgallon told the Mail: “I’ve been speaking to Grant Hanley, my old Blackburn teammate who played under Farke at Norwich. Grant said he’s an excellent manager and a top bloke too. So, Farke would be a good shout. If they [Leeds board and 49ers] go for someone without his kind of pedigree, the fans won’t be happy.”
Leeds are hoping to make an appointment ahead of the weekend, with players back for the start of pre-season training on Sunday. Farke is one of the leading candidates to take the role, but there are other names linked to the vacant role also. Interview were believed to have taken place in London last week, with the wait for EFL approval on the 49ers Enterprises takeover slowing down the process.
