Rafael Nadal chooses solo path for 2024 Bastad Open final

Rafael Nadal will play tomorrow in the final of the 2024 Bastad Open in Sweden and has made the decision not to put his body through two matches in a day as he won’t play with Casper Ruud in the doubles.
They will hand Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos a walk-over into the final of the men’s doubles. Previously they’d won two matches in the tournament which they used as preparation for the Olympic Games.
Ruud lost out early to Thiago Monteiro at the 2024 Bastad Open singles with the King of ATP 250 European Clay teaming with the main King of Clay. Now Nadal will take on the final as he made the decision to play it with this choice after many thought he might retire before the semi-finals in a bid to conserve his fitness.

He will play the Olympic Games over the next two weeks for the final time and will aim for a final gold medal on the hallowed grounds of Roland Garros. But instead will only play the singles final though.
“It was not the best beginning of the day, but very nice way to finish the day for me winning alongside Rafa,” Ruud said after their last win.
“Not easy to be on court after losing singles. Casper played so well this afternoon, so well done for him,” added Nadal. “We had some fun, have been an emotional match at the end, a good level of tennis against two good players. So we enjoy it.”
“What is this?” the 38-year-old said. “I have Fedal and now Ruudal, so both!” laughed the 22-time major winner.
