NEWS: DEREK GRANT LEAVES ALKALINE TRIO

Announced on Thursday, June 8, Derek Grant, the drummer for Alkaline Trio, has left the band. He was the band’s longest serving drummer from 2001 to 2023, being in the band for 22 years.

Grant has drummed on albums such as Good Mourning (2003), Crimson (2005), and My Shame Is True (2013), among others.

The announcement was made on the band’s social channels.

Derek stated that touring had become increasingly difficult in recent years, and that this decision came as a result to better his mental health. You can read the full statement below.

The rest of the band, Matt Skiba and Dan Adriano had this to say on Grant’s departure:

“In light of Derek’s decision to step down as a member of the band, we’d like to send our love and thanks for everything he contributed. It’s impossible to put into words all he’s done, but we are endlessly proud of what we have accomplished with one another.”

Alkaline Trio is scheduled to play multiple dates later this summer and fall.
