Oilers’ Evander Kane Involved In Racist Incident With Spitting Cyclist

Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane has shared a troubling experience that happened to him a few days ago in Alberta, Canada, where he was subjected to a racist encounter with a cyclist. The incident, which Kane posted about on an Instagram story video (h/t YEGWAVE on X for re-posting it), involved a man who spat on Kane’s vehicle and then verbally attacked him with offensive remarks

Kane described the incident in detail on his Instagram story. “This cyclist was riding his bike past my vehicle and decided to spit on it as he rode by,” Kane wrote.” I then confronted him as he tried to deny the claim. Luckily, a friend of mine who was driving in the area pulled over to intervene in our conversation. This gentleman then proceeded to tell my friend and me, and I quote, ‘You people don’t belong here.’ It’s incredibly disappointing that there are still people like this today.”

This statement further inflamed the situation, leading to a tense exchange between the cyclist and Kane’s friend, who is seen in the driver’s seat of a black car in the clip. Kane expressed his disappointment in the encounter, highlighting the ongoing issue of racism. “It’s incredibly disappointing that there are still people like this today,” he wrote. Karl Edmonton Oilers identified friend, attempted to de-escalate the situation and addressed the cyclist, saying, “I own a lot of property in the area, I mean, I’m just trying to bring peace, and that’s not a good statement you made.”

Moving on to sporting talk, Kane is scheduled to undergo surgery following an injury suffered during the Stanley Cup Playoffs and he’s expected to miss the start of the 2024-25 regular season.
