There was a time earlier in his career when Zach Collaros would have fought tooth and nail to stay in a game after suffering a head injury.

He might not even have let his coach or medical people know that he’d been shaken up.

But the Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback has learned a few things over the years.

So when he had his brain rattled by a late hit in Regina last Sunday, Collaros understood exactly why he was told to take off his helmet and shoulder pads for the rest of the game.

“With my history of head injuries, as you guys know it’s well-documented, and neck issues that I’ve had, we usually err on the side of precaution,” Collaros said as the Bombers returned to practice on Wednesday. “I wasn’t really in a position to fight with him. He is the doctor. Understanding some of the consequences if you do have a concussion and what can happen after if you stay in the game… certainly at this phase of my career I lean more that way.
