Exiled Eels prop granted immediate release; Benji’s signing spree continues: Transfer Centre

The Eels have confirmed prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard will depart the club, granting him a release from the final year of his contract.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Parramatta confirmed the 31-year-old is set to sign with another club, with the former representative star being linked with a move to the Broncos.

The Dragons were previously considered the frontrunners to secure his signature, however it was reported they couldn’t settle on the length of any prospective deal.

“Reagan is a quality player and has consistently demonstrated his impact on the field, reaching the impressive milestone of 200 NRL games earlier this year,” general manager of football Mark O’Neill said.

“While these decisions are never easy, we also wanted to ensure that Reagan had the opportunity to secure his future beyond the 2025 season.

“We thank Reagan for his dedicated service to the Eels and wish him, his partner Alira and their young family all the very best for the future.”

Campbell-Gillard also added: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Parramatta, I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and for the lifelong friendships I’ve made.

“I also want to thank the passionate Eels fanbase, it’s been a pleasure playing in front of them and I’ve appreciated all their support over the years.”

Campbell-Gillard played 107 games for the Eels since arriving at the club in 2020, having made a move from the Panthers.

TIGERS CONFIRM BIRD’S ARRIVAL

Wests Tigers’ moves to avoid another wooden spoon have continued with confirmation of the signing of Jack Bird from the Dragons.

A two-year deal sees Bird continue a 156-game career which includes a premiership with the Sharks in 2016.

The utility will join the club in November for pre-season training having declared this won’t be his final NRL contract.

“The way that I’ve bounced back from my injuries I’ve been pretty resilient, most people would’ve given up,’’ Bird told the Daily Telegraph last week.

“I had three ACL surgeries over my career, rheumatoid arthritis, so to think back when my career started that I would still be playing, I’d say no way.

“But the way I’m going now, I feel like my body is holding up well and I can get through until I’m 32, even 34 hopefully.

“I actually feel great, so I don’t see this as my final contract.

“Obviously the road is getting shorter, but I feel like I’ve still got a bit to go.

“I’m only 29 and by the time the Tigers contract is over, I’ll be turning 32 and I still think I can keep going if not in the NRL, then overseas.’’
