Kevin Durant’s ‘Ideal’ Starting Lineup Includes Two Players from the Mavericks
Kevin Durant chooses two Mavericks players for his ideal starting lineup, with one potentially unexpected choice.
Kevin Durant is considered one of the top scorers in the history of the NBA and has a good understanding of what makes up a perfect lineup. He was a key member of the Golden State Warriors dynasty in the late 2010s, playing on what many consider to be the best team ever in the 2016-17 season. They won 67 games and a championship with a playoff record of 16-1.
Durant was recently tasked with selecting a flawless starting five of current players on the “Boardroom” show and included two Dallas Mavericks in his lineup, but one of them could be unexpected.
Dirk Nowitzki responds to Klay Thompson’s choice of wearing a throwback jersey.
Durant began by saying that he would likely choose Luka Doncic to play the point guard position. I’d have Luka, myself, LeBron, and Embiid in my starting lineup with Embiid at center because he shoots threes better than Jokic. Next, you have to choose someone like Klay [Thompson]. “He is 6 feet 7 inches tall and shooting the ball in that manner.”
It might come as a bit unexpected that Durant didn’t choose Kyrie Irving, his Brooklyn Nets teammate, whom he joined after leaving the Golden State Warriors. Even though they weren’t very successful, the two remain close friends.
The most unexpected thing was including Klay Thompson in the starting lineup, as Thompson has declined in his skills and lost some athleticism and defensive prowess. Thompson faced criticism for his play last season, but one reason he joined the Mavs this summer was to demonstrate his ability to contribute to a winning team. Both of them participated in the Warriors run, however, Devin Booker, who is currently playing for the Phoenix Suns, could also step into a similar position.
No further clarification is necessary for the rest of the lineup. Luka Doncic and Joel Embiid are always in the running for MVP, Durant is considered one of the best players of all time.
