Voorhees huge day gets National Honors for SDSU Running Back

BROOKINGS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -The last time South Dakota State played at Southeastern Louisiana in 2012, Zach Zenner ran for 283 yards.

Nearly 12 years to the day the Lions and their fans saw another horror show from a new Jackrabbit running back named Voorhees!

Redshirt Freshman Kirby Voorhees had carried the ball just 12 times for 55 yards in SDSU’s first three games.

With the Jackrabbit offense struggling on Saturday night, the Florida native needed just five carries to run for 179 yards, including touchdowns of 20, 22 and 80 yards to spark SDSU’s 41-0 rout.

Not surprisingly he was honored today as the Missouri Valley Football Conference offensive player of the week and the Stats FCS National Freshman of the Week with a running style that’s sure to make him a fan favorite.

Kirby Voorhees says, ”Uhh high knees you know! Just keep those knees moving, they gonna fall off! (Coach Robbie) Rouse puts me in a lot of positions in practice to make plays and it almost came second nature today. I can just thank my offensive line. My O-Line does so much for me to help me break those tackles and get to the space where I can make those plays.”

Kirby and the Jacks are off this weekend before beginning Valley play on October 5th at Northern Iowa.
