Scholar Athlete of the Week: Gautier’s Fredrick Nicholson

GAUTIER, Miss. (WLOX) -Gautier’s Fredrick Nicholson splits his time between the football field and baseball diamond as well as splitting time between his high school classes and junior college classes, so he’s pulling double duty all year long.

“Collegiate Academy I started my junior year, so while I was a full time student at the junior college here, I was a full time student at Gautier high school,” said Nicholson. “I’ll have my associates degree here in a few months and I’m always trying to get ahead of things. It’s important to have an education not even including sports, just later on in life.”

Being a student athlete is all about balance, and that’s something Nicholson strives to find every week.

“There’s a lot of late nights, studying and that type of stuff. Just finding the right priorities,” he said. “There’s film, there’s games, and all that type of stuff. You have to set your priorities straight.”

Nicholson is still weighing his options on where he wants to go to college but has a clear path for what he wants to study when he gets there.

“I want to be in athletic administration so going on to be an athletic director,” he said. “Being in sports all my life I’ve been in the business aspect so I’m trying to combine those two to find what’s best for me.”

Whether it’s on the football field, the diamond, or the classroom, Nicholson is always learning and applying his skill to every situation.

“Adversity. You have to get things done,” he said. “Homework you have to get it done, on the field your assignments you have to get them done no matter what. You just have to get those things right.
