Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as former Foxes midfielder buys Royal Excelsior Virton after leaving Chelsea
Former Leicester City and France International midfielder has purchased Belgian third-tier side Royal Excelsior Virton.
The France midfielder left the Foxes in 2016 to join Chelsea just a few months after helping City win their historic Premier League title under Claudio Ranieri.
Kante won another top-flight title in his first season at the Blues as well as a whole host of other trophies during his time in West London including the Champions League in 2021.
But after an injury-hit campaign at Chelsea, the 32-year-old will leave to join Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al-Ittihad on July 1 and on the same date, he will be taking from Flavio Becca as chairman of Royal Excelsior Virton.
“Flavio is obviously extremely happy to be able to hand over the keys of the club to N’Golo Kante,” said the club in a statement.
“[He is] a player of great class, not only for his footballing qualities but also and above all for his unanimously recognised human qualities.”
Kante’s club will play in the Belgian National Division 1 in the 2023-24 season. The division is two steps below the country’s top tier, the Belgian Pro League.
No details have been released on whether he has paid a fee to purchase the club who say they are debt free with a board of directors to be set up in the coming days.
