According to Indian media on Sunday, there have been over 70 fictitious bomb threats made against aircraft run by various Indian airlines this week, causing panic among travelers and delays across the globe.

The warnings caused planes to be diverted to Canada and Germany, while fighter jets sprung into action to escort airplanes in the skies above Britain and Singapore. All flights landed safely, according to AFP.

“Very strict action” would be taken, the Indian government and civil aviation authorities have warned.

The number of threats received in the last week has not been disclosed by New Delhi’s civil aviation authorities, but since October 13, more than 70 hoaxes targeting both local and foreign planes have been reported by the Times of India and broadcaster News18.
