As much as people wanted Coach O gone. Yall gotta admit his team’s were exciting an never gave up. I’m starting to believe BK is a bad fit. I say he walks away within next 3 seasons
There’s no denying the excitement Coach Ed Orgeron brought to LSU during his tenure, and while his departure came with mixed feelings, the energy and spirit of his teams left a lasting legacy. From the high-flying 2019 National Championship team to the underdog squads that played with grit and fire, Coach O’s teams were never boring. They played with passion, and it was clear they had an identity—a reflection of Orgeron’s own fiery persona. They might not have always been the most disciplined, but they were fun to watch, and in college football, that counts for a lot.
However, Brian Kelly’s arrival in Baton Rouge in 2022 has sparked a different vibe around the program. Kelly, with his polished demeanor and methodical approach, has tried to establish a more controlled, disciplined culture at LSU, but some fans are starting to question whether his style is truly the right fit for a program known for its dynamic, high-energy atmosphere. While Kelly has undeniably done some good things, including leading LSU to a respectable 10-win season in 2022, there’s something about the connection with the fan base that doesn’t seem as electric as it was under Orgeron.
The issue, however, isn’t simply that Kelly’s approach is different. It’s that his recruiting and game management decisions have often left fans scratching their heads. Despite the talent available in Louisiana, Kelly has struggled at times to build an offense that matches the caliber of the state’s athletes. There’s been a lack of explosiveness on offense, and while Kelly has made some strides in building a solid defense, the offense under his leadership has yet to live up to the standard that LSU fans expect.
Furthermore, Kelly’s previous success at Notre Dame came with a program that didn’t have the same expectations as LSU, where championship aspirations are nearly constant. The LSU faithful demand not just winning but dominant, exciting football, and while Kelly has gotten results, his teams have sometimes lacked that killer instinct, the type of fire that made LSU teams so thrilling under Orgeron.
This sense of disconnect has led some to question if Kelly is the right fit for the long term. LSU thrives off energy, and while Kelly’s experience and discipline are invaluable, it’s possible that his conservative approach won’t mesh with what fans truly want—entertainment and a consistent championship contender. Many fans feel that Orgeron’s swagger, although imperfect, was more suited to the LSU culture, and Kelly’s more methodical style might not ignite the same kind of fervor that the program has historically seen.
It’s not hard to imagine a scenario where Kelly’s time at LSU doesn’t pan out. If the program doesn’t take the next step within the next few years, Kelly might decide that he’s not the right fit, or LSU might decide to go in a different direction. In either case, the thought of him walking away within the next three seasons isn’t as far-fetched as it may seem, given the challenges he faces in winning over a fan base that’s used to a different style of football. Only time will tell if Kelly can bridge the gap between his coaching philosophy and what LSU expects, but the pressure is mounting.
