The German head coach is expected to be unveiled as the new Leeds United boss

Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer believes the Whites are making the right decision in appointing Daniel Farke as their new head coach given his previous Championship credentials. The former Norwich City boss has won promotion from the second tier on two occasions and is widely expected to become the next Leeds United boss following their relegation from the Premier League.

The Whites have already returned to pre-season training for initial testing, but are without a leader following Sam Allardyce’s departure at the end of last season. Much of the delay has been down to the proposed 49ers Enterprises takeover at Elland Road, which is awaiting approval.

Despite Farke remaining the main contender to take over at Elland Road, reports in France at the weekend claimed the Whites had made a last-ditch attempt to bring in Lorient boss Regis Le Bris over the course of the weekend. The report claims the French manager then failed to turn up for training with the Ligue 1 side on Monday which sparked further doubts over his future at Lorient.

However, Palmer believes the Whites should steer clear of the Frenchman and bring in an experienced manager in Farke to give their promotions hopes a shot in the arm.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “Although Le Bris is forging a growing reputation as head coach, I think at this juncture where Leeds are looking to bounce back to the Premier League, it is too risky.

“They need an experienced head coach who has tasted promotion. Daniel Farke for me is the outstanding candidate of the names mentioned so far.

“He has romped the division twice, and would likely have a bigger budget to work than on the two previous occasions when he got Norwich promotion.”
