Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Steve Cooper’s Reds target summer window business

Nottingham Forest will look to oversee a number of departures as they aim to trim their squad this summer.

Moving some players on – either permanently or on loan – will be just as important for the Reds as bringing in the right signings. And fans have had their say on which players should leave before the transfer window closes on September 1.

NottinghamshireLive asked supporters whether the club should keep or sell members of Steve Cooper’s squad. The results make for interesting reading, with a clear indication of the decisions Forest should make.

Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is part of a group likely to move on this summer. Less than six months after he put pen to paper from Newcastle United, his stay at the City Ground seems set to be a short one.

He made little impact in the second half of last term, then was not involved during the run-in following a falling out with Cooper. With that in mind, just five percent of fans who took part in our poll believe he should stay at the club. From almost 3,500 votes, just 196 went in favour of Forest keeping Shelvey.

The balance of votes also fell in favour of the Reds selling Shelvey’s former Magpies teammate Chris Wood. His move has become permanent, after he initially joined on loan in January, but 25 percent of fans still feel he should be moved on.

Other players who the majority of supporters voted to be put up for sale include Alex Mighten, Emmanuel Dennis, Remo Freuler and Steve Cook. The votes were more evenly split where Sam Surridge, Lewis O’Brien and Wayne Hennessey were concerned.

On the flip side, a strong message has been delivered over any potential suitors eyeing up some of Cooper’s key players. An overwhelming majority of fans want Forest to hang on to Brennan Johnson, Morgan Gibbs-White, Taiwo Awoniyi, Danilo, Orel Mangala, Ryan Yates, Felipe, Moussa Niakhate, Joe Worrall, Neco Williams and Serge Aurier.

Votes were also cast on the futures of Gustavo Scarpa, Cheikhou Kouyate, Harry Toffolo and Giulian Biancone, among others. Here are the results in full…
