Leicester City are on the verge of securing the services of one of the most highly-rated defensive talents in England on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

That name is Callum Doyle – an England under-20 international who is fresh off the back of two hugely successful loan spells in the English Football League at Sunderland in 2021/22 and Coventry City in 2022/23.

Doyle’s contributions at the heart of both defences while on-loan played an integral role in their respective successes at the top of the division, with Sunderland securing promotion to the Championship via the play-offs back in 2022.

Last season, the 19-year-old was part of a Coventry City defence that reached the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium, battling it out for a place in the Premier League against Luton Town – who ultimately come out on top.

Now, Callum Doyle is set to have another crack at being part of a Premier League promotion-winning side, with the England youth international on the verge of completing a loan deal back in the Championship for the forthcoming 2023/24 campaign.

That is according to the information of Jack Gaughan, who states that Manchester City’s Callum Doyle is now set to complete a season-long loan move to recently-relegated Championship outfit Leicester City, with the Foxes holding no option to buy in the agreement.

In further details provided by John Percy, it is revealed that Doyle will undergo his medical at Leicester City on Wednesday, with an official announcement from the side now coached by former Manchester City assistant Enzo Maresca to follow shortly after.

Doyle originally signed for Manchester City in 2014, making significant progress throughout the Premier League champions’ youth ranks and playing a key role in two league triumphs during the 2020/21 season with the under-18 squad and EDS.

The sanctioning of a basic loan move with no option to buy, as opposed to a permanent deal with favourable clauses, is perhaps an indication towards the high-regard in which the central defender is held by Manchester City officials.

Back in January, Manchester City moved to secure the long-term future of Doyle by negotiating a contract extension until the summer of 2027, with the option of agreeing to a further year taking him through to 2028.
