David Ornstein has claimed that fellow journalists believe that Manchester City will secure a transfer deal for Josko Gvardiol this summer.

The Manchester club have been linked with the RB Leipzig defender for several weeks, having agreed personal terms with him last month.

With talks between the two clubs apparently underway, one journalist has shared some details regarding the likelihood of a deal being eventually struck.

Ornstein discusses potential Gvardiol transfer

Speaking in a recent video on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel, Ornstein had this to say about City’s pursuit of Gvardiol, starting with the transfer fee that Leipzig want for him.

He said: “They’re reported to have a €100m (£86m) asking price, I’d be surprised if they wavered from that.

“Manchester City want to pay less for him and let’s remember they are strict in their valuations and in the past they’ve shown that they’re not afraid to walk away from deals if the numbers aren’t right.

“An added fact may be that they need a player to leave, potentially, to free up space. Would that be Aymeric Laporte? Let’s wait and see.

“But when you speak to people around the industry, the consensus is that City will get a deal done for Josko Gvardiol, that’s right now.

“Again, things can change, but I think it’s a likely transfer that we could see in the weeks ahead.”

The Croatian got a good view of what the Citizens are capable of on the pitch last season as he featured in both of Leipzig’s Champions League knockout matches against City.

The first saw Gvardiol score in the 1-1 draw in Germany, before he had a night to forget at the Etihad Stadium where he was on the receiving end of a 7-0 thrashing.

Opinion: Josko Gvardiol can do it all, but is not the star signing for Real Madrid - Football España

Bearing in mind how the 21-year-old and his entourage have told Leipzig that he wants to join Pep Guardiola’s side this summer, this is a big factor why Ornstein and others in the football journalism industry believe that this deal will eventually become a reality.

With the centre-back clearly eager to make a move to the Etihad, it seems that the main factor left to sort out is landing on a transfer offer that Leipzig are willing to accept.

Now that Ornstein has said that he feels it’s likely this deal will happen, this should reassure any City supporters that may have started to doubt whether it would or not.
