Amad Diallo has been linked with a move to Leeds United this summer
Erik ten Hag will continue to run the rule over Leeds United-linked Amad Diallo over the next few weeks of pre-season. The Manchester United winger spent last season on loan with Championship outfit Sunderland and, with a number of teams said to be keeping tabs on his situation, the club are considering whether to send him out again this season.
Diallo was given the chance to impress in the club’s first pre-season game on Wednesday as the Red Devils took on Leeds at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadion and he did manage to catch the eye. The youngster showed glimpses of his skill and trickery on the ball and he got the better of Whites left-back Leo Hjelde on more than one occasion before changes were made at the break.
Potential suitors will have been watching closely in Norway, but Ten Hag hasn’t seen enough to come to a decision on whether he could have a role to play at Old Trafford over the coming months. As such, Diallo will remain with the Man United first-team for the time being before a decision is made on his short-term future.
“You don’t make conclusions after one week,” Ten Hag said of Diallo’s situation while speaking in Norway.
He added: “Some of the young players impressed me, but I don’t want to single someone out. We are just in the first week, and I expected these levels and these performances.
“I will tell them during our sessions what I expect from them. How we judge the levels, the performance on Wednesday, what they have to work on. But after one week I never make conclusions.”
Diallo made 39 league appearances for the Black Cats last season, scoring 14 goals along the way, including a stunning effort against Luton Town in the Championship play-offs. He couldn’t help the Wearside club back to the Premier League, though, with the club falling short in the play-off semi-finals after a late run of form to claim a spot in the top six.
