Leeds United look to have fended of significant interest in Ethan Ampadu this week as he nears a £7million transfer from Chelsea.
The Whites are very close to completing their first signing of the summer under Daniel Farke, a long-awaited landmark for a new era at Elland Road.
It comes after confirmation last night that Leeds had seen their agreed takeover by the 49ers Enterprises ratified by the EFL.
Ethan Ampadu to Leeds imminent
The Athletic’s Phil Hay revealed yesterday that a full agreement was in place for Leeds to sign Chelsea’ 22-year-old midfielder Ethan Ampadu on a permanent deal.
Such a signing is expected to cost Leeds an initial £7million up front with add-ons included in the deal as well.
Who else wanted to sign him?
Ampadu’s signature has been in-demand for some time from Chelsea, whether that be on loan or with permanent deals, and Leeds have beaten off plenty of competition to win this race.
That’s according to 90min, who claim that the Whites have won the race over Premier League sides Burnley, Sheffield United and Fulham, as well as West Brom and Coventry City in the Championship.
It wouldn’t be a shock to learn that these clubs did in fact want to sign Ampadu, given his talents, experience, and still young age at 22.
He’s no slouch already in the game having amassed such senior experience, and is only going to get better with more starting opportunities and a permanent move.
While he could cut it in the Premier League, there is every chance that playing in a ball-dominant side that are going to be looking to win more games than lose will bring on his development so much more.
