Nottingham Forest are keen to tie defender Joe Worrall down to a new contract at the City Ground. The Reds’ captain has just a year to run on his existing deal and that’s providing some cause for concern.

Alan Nixon of The Sun believes that Forest want to give their player the chance to extend his stay on Trentside. He’s claimed that other clubs are monitoring the situation forcing the Reds to act.

Worrall endured a pretty frustrating time of things during his maiden campaign playing in the Premier League. He was sat on the bench by Steve Cooper on three separate periods of the season but did finish strongly.

It was during the final six or seven games that Worrall started to showcase his class. He started to prove to his critics that he was good enough to play in the top flight and he will benefit from those experiences.

Worrall is Forest through and through. He has risen through the youth academy at the City Ground and his defining moment came when he led the team to promotion to the Premier League.

Now, he could be in line for a new contract. The club are keen to act quickly and hopefully, Worrall can be tied to an extension on his deal before the 2023/24 campaign gets underway.

Forest are keen to sign Worrall to a new contract this summer

The 26-year-old has been an exceptional servant to Forest. Despite his tender years, he’s made 217 appearances for the Reds and always gives his all when he’s called upon.

Worrall should be kept at the City Ground. He is still learning when it comes to the Premier League and the 2023/24 campaign looks like being a very big one for the captain.

The injury to Moussa Niakhate will likely see Worrall begin the campaign in the side. Forest therefore want to make sure that their academy graduate remains at the club for the long term.

This makes a lot of sense. It would be nonsensical to let Worrall walk away for free in a matter of months and hopefully, a deal can be struck between the two parties very soon.

In March 2022, Worrall received some high-profile praise from John Terry. The England hero and Forest loanee from 1999, lauded him for his performance in the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup.
