Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop is in talks to join Sunderland.
The 23-year-old joined United in January 2020, but is yet to make a senior appearance in his three-and-a-half years at the club.
He spent the 2021-22 season on loan at League Two side Mansfield Town, helping them make the play-off final before they were beaten 3-0 by Port Vale at Wembley.
Having returned to Old Trafford last season, he featured nine times for the Under-21 side.
He could now be set for a move to the Championship, with Sunderland looking to bolster their squad after narrowly missing out on promotion last term.
The Black Cats made the play-offs, but were eliminated by Luton Town in the semi-finals, with Rob Edwards’ men going on to beat Coventry City in the final to earn promotion to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Sunderland are also trying to hang on to one of their star players, with Burnley showing interest in their winger Jack Clarke.
The Clarets have made an improved bid of £10m plus add-ons for Clarke, but this has been knocked back by Sunderland, who value him at £15m.
Clarke scored 11 goals and registered 14 assists in 50 appearances for Sunderland last term.
He was previously on Tottenham’s books after joining for £8.5m in 2019, but he never featured for the north London club in the Premier League.
He could get another chance to prove he belongs in the top flight if Burnley can reach an agreement with Sunderland.
