According to reports, West Ham have held ‘initial talks’ with Man Utd over signing Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay this summer.
The Red Devils have already spent around £100m this summer to sign Mason Mount and Andre Onana from Chelsea and Inter Milan respectively.
They are now switching their attention to signing at least one new striker and another midfielder, with Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat among their targets.
Erik ten Hag is also looking to offload some unwanted players to raise funds for his remaining signings. David De Gea, Phil Jones and Anthony Elanga have already moved on this summer and Maguire and McTominay may soon follow them.
Both players were key players for Man Utd prior to last season but they slipped down the pecking order under Ten Hag in 2022/23.
Maguire was reportedly valued at £50m at the start of this summer but United’s asking price for him has since been slashed to £35m.
McTominay meanwhile – according to West Ham reporter Claret and Hugh – is valued quite high at £45m by Man Utd.
“West Ham have confirmed to Claret and Hugh they offered Chelsea £37m plus £3m of add-ons for Conor Gallagher and that it has been rejected,” according to Claret and Hugh.
“The Hammers have also disclosed that a bid has been made for Scott McTominay but that too fails to meet the £45m being requested by Manchester United and West Ham insiders are less optimistic a compromise can be reached.”
‘While they are not encouraging offers, it’s thought it would require very big bids for United to even consider a sale. As it stands, Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag is planning for both to be key members of the squad next season.
‘Maguire, who was recently stripped of the Man Utd captaincy, is being closely monitored by clubs in the Premier League and abroad.
‘Erik ten Hag says despite being disappointed by the decision, losing the Manchester United captaincy could be ‘good’ for Harry Maguire.
The Hammers are thought to be exploring the option of either a loan or a permanent deal for the 30-year-old defender.’
