Latest Nottingham Forest news as the Reds hire former Chelsea physio Jon Fearn to solve their injury issues
Nottingham Forest have hired former Chelsea physio Jon Fearn as they continue to strengthen their backroom staff.
Fearn left Chelsea back in March this year after 13 years at Stamford Bridge, during which time he worked with 11 different managers as the club won 12 major trophies.
He now joins Forest as part of the backroom staff recruitment drive, which is being led by chief football officer Ross Wilson and owner Evangelos Marinakis. Among the staff to have been hired are new head of performance Alek Gross, along with strength and conditioning chief Alex Burrows, who is also ex-Chelsea.
According to The Athletic, Fearn will help Forest “combat their injury issues” and “investigate” what may have caused last season’s problems. The Reds’ hierarchy have been “acutely aware” of their poor injury record last season, it is said. The highly-regarded physio has had offers from other teams in the Premier League, and is considered “one of the more efficient and experienced” physiotherapists in the game.
“One of my jobs at Chelsea was overseeing a lot of the data analysis,” he said earlier this year, per The Athletic. “I would say we were top six out of 22, 24 Champions League teams every year.
“Sometimes we were first or second in terms of availability. Sometimes our approaches were seen as a little bit untraditional, maverick at times, but some of our results were incredible. The average Champions League team runs availability about 86% for a season and we set a target to be 90% and above. Most the time it was.”
