Plenty of distractions have been going on behind the scenes in terms of finances, which has subsequently impacted his ability to do deals in the transfer window.
The lack of finances have been made clear, with Ashley Young arriving on a free transfer and Arnaut Danjuma arriving on a loan deal from Villarreal.
It remains to be seen if the Toffees will actually dip into their limited funds to strengthen, but the days until the beginning of the new season are gradually drawing to a close.
It seems, though, that Dyche has a plan in mind in any case, with the boss relying heavily on a fit squad of players to help get through the new season.
The players were given a chance to impress in a pre-season clash with Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday (25 July), but they were also handed an unwanted surprise by their manager, as per the Liverpool Echo.
“As referee Matt Donohue blew his whistle for the half-time break, Bolton’s players headed straight down the tunnel,” according to the Liverpool Echo.
“The majority of Everton’s players, however, stayed out, knowing that they were done for the night, or so they thought. The Blues’ coaching staff had other ideas.
“Instead of heading for the showers, eight of the players who were set to come off were put through their paces. Starting on the halfway line, the running commenced for a good five minutes. Not to be outdone, the players who played in the second half were also put through their paces at full-time.”
As shown by their displays for two seasons in a row now, the Merseyside club are not able to call upon the most talented players in the Premier League, but Dyche is doing his best to ensure he has the fittest bunch of the lot.
It won’t win the Toffees the title, but it may just be enough to secure their safety in the top flight for another season, with a third successive relegation battle very much on the cards for Everton.
