Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive brings you an update on Philippe Coutinho amid transfer interest
Aston Villa midfielder Philippe Coutinho will not join Besiktas, it has been reported.
The Turkish side expressed an interest in the Brazilian and had reportedly “contacted” his representatives over a potential summer move. His future at Villa Park is uncertain after struggling to make an impact.
He has featured just eight times in the Premier League under Unai Emery. In addition to Besiktas, Al Ettifaq have also been credited with an interest.
The Super Lig side were claimed to be interested in a loan deal with the option of making the move permanent next summer. According to Coutinho’s former Vasco da Gama teammate Josef de Souza, Besiktas’ attempts to sign the player did not pay off, however.
Souza, who spent the last three years at Besiktas, has opened up on the situation which was picked up by several Turkish outlets. He wrote on Twitter: “We did our best but it was not possible. BESIKTAS tried and tried, Ceyhun did what he could.
“This time my friend will not go to Turkey, he has other plans and I respect him. Thank you.”
Turkish outlet NTV Spor adds: “Coutinho’s decision, which is on Beşiktaş’s transfer agenda, has been announced. Josef de Souza, the former football player of Beşiktaş, who is his close friend, made the announcement.”
