Sheffield Wednesday host Southampton in the Championship opener tonight.

Sheffield Wednesday welcome the newly-relegated Southampton to Hillsborough for what should be an entertaining season opener under the lights in South Yorkshire.

Both sides go into this game under new management with Sheffield Wednesday headed by former Watford boss Xisco Munoz, who replaced Darren Moore earlier in the summer.

It’s been a tough month-and-a-half for the Spaniard but this week has seen some new faces arrive at the club, with Sheffield Wednesday having seven new signings in the building.

Those new signings are Ashley Fletcher, Bambo Diaby, Pol Valentin, Juan Delgado, Reece James, Di’Shon Bernard, and Anthony Musaba.

But will any start tonight?

It could be safe to assume that most won’t, given the fact that most have arrived later in the summer transfer window.

Expect James to start in his usual left-back position, whilst the likes of Valentin, Diaby, Delgado and maybe Musaba could feature off the bench as all have had pre-seasons – Diaby may be one who is most match-ready.

Liam Palmer was carrying a knock earlier in the summer but he’s since featured in pre-season, so he looks ready to start the new campaign.
