Latest Leicester City news as Matt Piper talks about Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and what he can achieve after the win over Coventry City in the Championship
Former Leicester City winger Matt Piper has backed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to be a “future captain” of the football club.
Dewsbury-Hall scored two goals in City’s opening Championship fixture against Coventry City on Sunday, with Enzo Maresca’s team picking up a 2-1 win. Having come through the academy, Dewsbury-Hall has now established himself in the first team at Leicester and there are only bigger things to come from the young man.
That’s something Piper, who himself broke into the City first team at the turn of the millennium, agrees with. He explained why his fellow Leicester lad was so instrumental against Coventry and what he can go on to achieve.
“Everyone knows that I love the kid: his personality, how much he loves this football club and the performances he delivers,” Piper told BBC Radio Leicester’s
“I was hoping this summer Maresca would really have him as a staple of his team and really build the team around him, because he’s got the personality to be a future captain of this football club.
“If we can keep him here, and you know, when you do that with a young player like that, with the mentality that he has and the skillset that he has, you can see big performances and that’s what you’ve seen today.
“He digs in, he can provide that inspiration you need when times are difficult. That’s exactly what he did this afternoon.
“He’s loving life under Maresca. If you look at some of the interviews that he’s done, he’s really flourishing in the position. It’s because he’s enjoying his football.”
