27-year-old Gary O’Neil rates highly could soon leave his club, amid new Wolves link

Wolves could potentially make a move for Josh Brownhill before the end of the summer transfer window, with a journalist claiming he could be leaving Burnley.

Wolves were linked with the midfielder again last week.

Brownhill is thought to be a player who has been on Wolves’ radar for quite some time.

The arrival of Sander Berge has made things tricky for him.

And now, journalist Dean Jones has given his verdict on the potential for Brownhill to leave, amid interest from Wolves.

Josh Brownhill could be set for Burnley exit – he’s a player Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil likes

Brownhill enjoyed a really good season last term.

The star made 48 appearances across all competitions and scored seven goals and made 10 assists.

Journalist Dean Jones has been speaking about Brownhill to Give Me Sport.

He has said that Gary O’Neil likes the player, and actually tried to sign him while he was at Bournemouth.

He believes there is genuine potential for him to depart Turf Moor in the coming days.

Jones said: “This is a player O’Neil knows well from his playing days, and further than that, he looked into signing him when he was Bournemouth manager.

“When a new manager comes in, he wants to make his mark on the squad, and one way to do that is to add players with a certain character that reflects what you are looking for in the overall squad.

“So, I think it’s an interesting link and makes sense as we see this latest version of Wolves’ first-team squad emerge.

“He has been slightly affected by the arrival of Sander Berge at Burnley. But he isn’t someone that would shirk a challenge in that sense. He has been an important part of the Burnley squad, and they don’t want him to leave. But I’m told it’s still not going to be quite as straightforward as that and to keep an eye on how this one plays out.”

Josh Brownhill would be a welcome addition for Wolves

It would be good to see Bronwhill making a move to Molineux.

But of course, it remains to be seen if Wolves can afford to do a deal.

O’Neil would seemingly like to bring him in, but the financial situation will dictate whether it can be done.

Above all else though, Wolves need to get a centre-half in in the next week.

O’Neil surely cannot proceed with just three options.
