Burnley sign Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa

Burnley have announced the signing of attacker Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa on a five-year deal, with the youngster becoming the Clarets’ 11th arrival of the summer.

The 20-year-old departs the club he joined as a boy in order to switch to Turf Moor, where Vincent Kompany‘s Clarets will be looking to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Ramsey has enjoyed three loan periods away from Villa Park over the past two seasons, firstly heading to Cheltenham Town for the latter part of the 2021-22 term.

Temporary spells at Championship sides Norwich City and Michael Carrick‘s Middlesbrough in 2022-23 have allowed the winger to further develop his talents, with the player scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 29 second-tier appearances.

The attack-minded player also possesses international pedigree, forming part of the England Under-19 squad who won the European Championships last summer.

Having now signed for newly-promoted Burnley for an undisclosed fee, Ramsey will be aiming to cement himself as a Premier League regular in the coming seasons at Turf Moor.

“I am absolutely buzzing. I have been waiting to be a Burnley player for a while now and I am really happy it is all officially done now. I cannot wait to get started,” Ramsey told the club’s official website following his arrival.

“I cannot wipe my smile off my face. When you come to a new club you want the lads to welcome you in and everyone here has done that straight away. It has been really easy to settle, everyone has been amazing.”

Ramsey leaves Villa Park having featured on two occasions for the West Midlands giants since making his first-team debut in August 2021, with a transfer away helping Unai Emery‘s to deal with their FFP restraints.

Burnley have mainly targeted attacking talent from the continent this summer, recruiting the likes of Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho from Basel and Espanyol respectively.

Both of the aforementioned duo started the Clarets’ top-flight opener against Manchester City on August 11, when a brace from Erling Haaland and a late Rodri strike condemned Kompany’s men to a 3-0 defeat.

With Emery’s Villa visiting Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon, Ramsey could be set to make his Burnley debut against his former employers.
