Norwich City have made a £7m bid for Everton striker Tom Cannon, amongst interest from Middlesbrough and Sunderland, according to a report by Sky Sports.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at fellow Championship side Preston North End and has been the subject of fierce Championship interest all summer, but could he opt for a permanent move to Carrow Road, following their impressive start to the season?
The striker is a product of the Everton youth setup, rising through the ranks and into the first-team fold. In January, Cannon was loaned out to Preston for the first time in his career and scored eight goals in 21 appearances last season at Championship level.
Cannon has also made his debut for the Republic Of Ireland U21s, scoring on his debut but is yet to make his international debut, but that could be improved if he were to make the switch before the window closes.
Norwich City have had an impressive start to the 2023/24 campaign, picking up ten points from their opening four matches in the Championship, sitting second in the table. David Wagner’s side has overcome Hull, Millwall and Huddersfield so far.
The only match that the Canaries didn’t win, was an entertaining 4-4 draw against Southampton in match two of the season.
Sky Sports released a short post on their transfer blog which stated…
‘Norwich City have made a £7m bid for Everton forward Tom Cannon. Cannon, 20, wants to join Norwich, who are second in the Championship.’
Cannon proved himself in the Championship last season and he would be an excellent addition to any Championship side, whether that’s Norwich, Middlesbrough or someone else.
A £7m price tag is a huge risk, but Cannon is only 20 and had a fantastic goal return last season, which suggests that it will be money well spent, with Norwich on the search for another striker to compete with Ashley Barnes and Adam Idah.
