Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Dwight McNeil updates emerge – Early Everton team news v Sheffield United

Everton manager Sean Dyche has delivered an injury update ahead of the club’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United.

The Merseyside outfit travel to Bramall Lane to take on the newly-promoted Blades in league action on Saturday (2 September).

And ahead of the match, Dyche has explained decisions will soon be made on both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Dwight McNeil regarding their potential to play, with the boss also providing an update on the injuries to Jack Harrison and Dele Alli.

“With Dominic, it’s nothing that needs surgery or anything, there was a minor situation on his sinus area that is delicate, so he has to be careful with it,” Dyche told reporters, as per the official Everton YouTube channel.

“The good news from an overall picture is that he’s managed to train through it, not with us because of the type of injury, but he’s managed to keep fit.

“As regard the weekend, it’s more of a touch and go situation to see what the decision is and how fragile it is. After the international break he should be clear.

“Dwight is just back training with us today, so he’s another one we have to make a decision on. He’s feeling pretty strong.

“Jack is on the grass with the sports science team, but not quite training with us yet. He’s going well and he’s feeling better.

“Dele is getting back on the grass slowly but surely, so that’s good to have him back around after a setback with his injury.”

Huge match

Everton have finally picked up their first win of the season after defeating Doncaster Rovers in the second round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday (30 August). Summer signings Arnaut Danjuma and Beto were on the scoresheet after the Toffees went 1-0 down in the first half.

It should provide the players with a much-needed confidence boost going into the match against Sheffield United, who are also struggling this season.

The Blades bowed out of the League Cup with a penalty shootout defeat at home to Lincoln City on Wednesday, having drawn 0-0 in normal time.

And like Everton, they have lost their first three matches of the new Premier League campaign. It is, therefore, a massive match for both clubs as they look to finally get their league campaigns up and running.

The visitors will be frustrated if Calvert-Lewin misses out again, but they do at least have new striker Beto to call upon this time.

In other Everton news, Youssef Chermiti has sent a two-word message as the latest Toffees transfer news emerges.
